Churaumi Aquarium with Kids: How Long, Where to Park and Stroller Tips

The aquarium is inside Ocean Expo Park
Churaumi Aquarium is not a standalone building with one small car park at the door. It sits inside the large Ocean Expo Park in Motobu.
The official park FAQ lists an average of 90 minutes for the aquarium, 20 minutes for the dolphin show and about 40 minutes each for the Tropical Dream Center and Oceanic Culture Museum. Travel time between these facilities is not included.
A simple family plan is:
- Pick one main aquarium route.
- Choose one nearby facility as an optional extra.
- Leave when the child is tired instead of turning every free attraction into a requirement.
This keeps the return drive manageable, especially if you are staying in Naha or central Okinawa.
Where to park
All nine Ocean Expo Park parking areas are free. For the aquarium, the official guidance points visitors toward P6 or the P7 multistory parking area.
P7 is also useful if you need a rental stroller. Even from a nearby car park, allow time to unload children and bags, find the entrance and walk through the park.
Parking can fill and surrounding roads can become busy on holidays or major event days. Check the official access and operating notices before leaving your hotel.
Strollers, diaper changing and nursing rooms
The aquarium's main route has ramps and elevators, so a stroller can be used inside.
Free rental strollers are available at selected Ocean Expo Park locations, including the first floor of P7. They cannot be reserved and are offered first come, first served. Do not arrive without your own stroller assuming one will definitely be available.
The official infant guide also lists:
- diaper-changing tables in several, but not all, aquarium restrooms;
- nursing rooms near the third-floor entrance and the second-floor Churaumi Theater;
- hot water dispensers for preparing formula in the nursing rooms;
- diapers sold at the Blue Manta shop in one listed size, subject to change.
Bring your own formula and the supplies your child normally needs.
A practical order with young children
- Use the toilet and offer water or a small snack before entering.
- Start with the aquarium's main exhibits while everyone still has energy.
- Take a proper break instead of eating while rushing between tanks.
- Add the dolphin, turtle or manatee area only if the child is still comfortable.
- Keep enough energy for the drive back.
The most common planning mistake is adding too many northern stops because they look close on a map. Kouri Island, Nago and Churaumi can all be worthwhile, but they do not all need to happen on the same day.
From Naha or from a northern hotel?
The aquarium's official access guidance gives about two hours by expressway from Naha Airport by car, while bus journeys can take longer depending on the service. Rental-car pickup, traffic, breaks and parking should be added to that estimate.
From Naha, treat Churaumi as the main event of the day. From Onna or northern Okinawa, the day is easier to shorten if a child becomes tired.

Children under six enter free under the aquarium's current admission categories. Other child and student categories depend on age and school level, and identification may be requested.

Rainy-day limits
The aquarium building is indoors, but a Churaumi day is not completely weatherproof. You still need to move between parking, the entrance and any outdoor park facilities.
In heavy rain, keep the plan focused on the aquarium and skip optional outdoor areas. During severe weather or a typhoon, check official closure and transport notices before travelling north.
